The Art of Food, presented by New York-Presbyterian, was an exciting new event for food and art lovers that was held at Sotheby’s this past fall in Manhattan. Ticketholders joined hosts Nicole Miller and Michael White for an elegant evening with one-of-a-kind hors d’oeuvres prepared by the best chefs in Manhattan.
These twenty-five culinary titans of the Upper East Side each created a unique mouthwatering dish inspired by art from Sotheby’s upcoming auction.
Sotheby’s is an innovative global art business serving the most discerning clients. It brings a world of art to a new world. Sotheby's opened the doors of its New York offices in 1955, and in 1967 acquired the largest US fine art auction house of the time, Parke-Bernet.
Sotheby's New York features exhibition space on six floors, a soaring nine-story glass atrium and galleries designed by museum architect Richard Gluckman, whose list of credits include the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum and the much-admired permanent collection galleries in the Whitney Museum of American Art. The expansive 22,000-square-foot space includes a state-of-the-art lighting system that enables nuances and subtleties of color and surface to be strikingly revealed. No other auction house, regional or international, can offer such extraordinary visual impact.
With a degree in fine arts from The Rhode Island School of Design and a degree from l' École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture Parisienne in Paris, Nicole Miller combines her art training with couture technique. This, along with her French heritage, has given her a unique style and vision. Her irreverent style of clothing has been worn by celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Joss Stone, Jennifer Aniston, Beyoncé, Blake Lively and Eva Longoria among others.
Although Michael White’s interpretations of Italian cuisine indicate otherwise, Michael spent his childhood in Beloit, Wisconsin before partnering with Ahmass Fakahany to form the Altamarea Group in New York City, which currently owns seventeen restaurants globally, including Michelin starred flagship Marea.

A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit Citymeals-on-Wheels.
Citymeals-on-Wheels raises private funds to ensure no homebound elderly New Yorker will ever go a day without food or human company. Last year, our family of contributors helped us bring 2 million nutritious meals to more than 18,000 frail aged in every borough of New York City. In addition, nearly 19,000 volunteers collectively spent 67,397 hours visiting and delivering meals to our neighbors.
Citymeals funds 31 community-based agencies that bring weekend, holiday and emergency meals to homebound elderly New Yorkers who can no longer shop or cook for themselves. In addition, our Mobile Food Pantry program delivers weekly bags of grocery staples to the most at-risk elderly and our Fresh Produce program enables us to supplement regular meal deliveries with fresh fruit and vegetables from local farmers.
